day 2 of classes....

Today the only class I had was Italian... there are literally only 7 people in my class. It's actually really nice to have such a small class because we all get a lot of attention from the teacher... today we were learning the correct way to pronounce the letters of the italian alphabet like yipselon for "Y", kappa for "K", Xics for "X", etc. sooo we got to play italian hang man in class!! we also learned how to count from 0-300 in italian.... we learned that, by throwing a crumpled up ball piece of paper around the room and each person had to say the number in sequential order... pretty cool methods for learning...

I went to my advisor today to ask to be switched from Web Design I to Web Design II, but she said that Web Design II isn't offered this semester....but I thought it was....so I'm going to go talk to the Graphic Design head honcho tomorrow and ask him what he would recommend...

I had a few hours to spare today, so I acted like an Italian (when in rome, right? errr....florence?...sooo when in florence, gotta do it like the florentines do) and I got a cappuccino and just sat and people watched for those hours.... It really is interesting to watch people... seeing how different tourists act, seeing how the locals act, and seeing all of the interactions people have with one another...

So I just found out today that we have a school cafeteria in one of the buildings...that's where I had lunch today... I got a caprese panini (shocker, i know) for 1.80 Euro! that's pretty inexpensive for a panini here!! I sat with a few dutch girls who are studying here... they are in my italian class and they were saying how it's so hard for them because they have to translate dutch to english to italian to speak it and understand it since the class is just taught in english and italian... I also met this girl who just graduated from some school in new york recently with an art history degree. She decided to move to florence just to experience life and is taking a couple classes at LDM (my school, here) and a couple classes at a culinary school.

It's just so interesting to talk to so many different types of people from all over the world.
Goodness gracious, I feel so lucky that I can afford to study abroad and I feel so lucky that I can afford to go away to a four year university in general. A lot of people can't afford to experience these amazing things, and I just feel so lucky. There are so many people who have never even been on an airplane before, and here I am being able to study abroad in another country, with a ton of other students from all over the world and just experience life for 4 months! I feel so fortunate and I have definitely learned to not take these experiences for granted, but rather to cherish them instead.

I've decided to try to post at least one picture on here for every post so here is the picture of the day

View overlooking the Arno from the Ponte Vecchio....
If you click on any of the pictures, it will enlarge them....
