Sooo this is the view I have outside my living room and eating area window.... gorgeous, right??
Everyone who has come to see our place says we live in a castle...we really are spoiled with the living arrangements though... but that's okay...
Last night I went to a discoteque, my first one in italy so far!! It was kind of fun, but I'm not so sure I would go back....there were fairly old guys (in their 40's and 50's) and there were really young guys (ages 13-16)...there were a bunch of Australians and a bunch of Italians....when people said that Italian men were feisty and aggressive, they weren't kidding!! I was dancing with friends and all of a sudden a guy came up behind me and grabbed me to dance with him....my friends thankfully pulled me away and I kept saying "no, I don't want to dance with you..." he didn't really get the hint and kept coming back over to me and finally one of my friends had to literally push him away... I told my friends that if the creepy guy came back, that I would just grab some other guy and start dancing with him for a few seconds..... and there were other guys that grabbed my friends and started to dance with them too... ohh goodness, they just don't give up!!
Today we had a cultural cooking class...it was really fun! The chef kept making fun of me for being a vegetarian....ohhh well...it happens... We made gnocchi from SCRATCH!! We peeled the potatoes, made the dough, rolled it, sliced it, and everything!! We made a tomato sauce as well to go with the gnocchi... everyone else had a sauce made with chopped veal, but of course I just had plain tomato sauce with basil and lemon...we also made a kind of rice dish with spelt, mozzarella, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers...it was so good! And for dessert, we made homemade tiramisu! so delicious!! All of this would help to explain why my program is so pricey as opposed to other programs... so far my program gave us...
- A super nice hotel for the 2 nights, 3 days of orientation
- A killer apartment right on the Arno river
- A walking city tour with a guide
- 2 days of brunch
- 1 night of a nice dinner at the hotel
- 1 night of pizza at a chic restaurant
- A survival tour showing us the places to go for gelato, paninis, other groceries, etc.
- The cooking lesson and dinner with the food we ate
- On-site staff available 24/7
- Annnd......a special orientation just for us for school....
So far so good...I'm excited to start classes tomorrow!! Tomorrow I have digital photography from 9-2:30 and then web design from 6-8:30 at night....the times could be better, but oh man I'm so excited for classes to start and to get into a routine of things... I have a few friends who will be in my digital photography class, so I'm really excited about that...
Ciao for now from Firenze!!
